SAM-5 by A.S.Moskalev

72k b/w SAM-5 at "History of aircraft construction in the USSR", Vol.1 p.555

5-seat passenger aircraft, high-wing monoplane of all-metal design. Remarkably light airframe with smooth 0.3mm skin on the fuselage and corrugated (0.3mm also) on the wings. Project approval was not easy - it was hard to convince experts that 5-passenger plane with 100hp engine can boost speed 178km/h and have flight range 1000km. Only positive recommendation of S.P.Korolev (who already was a prominent figure in early 30's) give live to SAM-5.

Aircraft was assembled by workers at Voronezh Aircraft Factory (then still under construction), without sufficient skills and training. As a result, finish quality of the aircraft suffered. Despite of this, performance was very good for aircraft powered with 100hp engine. Large number of flights were performed.
